Basingstoke MP, Maria Miller, visited the Brighton Hill Roundabout with Hampshire County Council’s Strategic Transport Manager to be briefed on the redevelopment which starts this week.
Maria said: “This £20 million Government investment in Brighton Hill Roundabout is great news for Basingstoke. These engineering works are all part of making sure new homes built on the west of the town go hand in hand with better walking, cycling and road links around the town. The upgrade will help to increase capacity, ease congestion, improving access in and out of Basingstoke for residents and local businesses.
“Roads will be widened to boost capacity and ease congestion; steep 1960s underpasses are being replaced with modern pedestrian crossings; and proper segregated cycling routes are all designed to make crossing this very busy junction easier and safer all round.
"Early stages of the works will include removing some trees to level out the junction. The scheme will replant with new trees and an additional 10% as well as increasing the diversity of species."
- Works commence on Monday 24 January 2022 and are due to be completed in Winter 2023. A number of measures are being implemented to help mitigate any disruption caused by the works. Traffic management will be required to provide safe working space for the workforce, as well as temporary footpaths for pedestrians.
- The contractor will have a permanent work compound at the Camrose Ground car park, and staff will be on site continuously to ensure a rapid response to any issues on site. Standard working hours will be 7.30 am – 6 pm.
