Local MP Maria Miller has written to the Highways Agency, the Secretary of State for Transport and Communities Secretary to ask that plans for a major new commercial distribution centre at J7 of the M3 are not allowed to stop this being a potential site for a new Hospital to serve Basingstoke residents.
Local MP Maria Miller said, “Junction 7 of the M3 was identified by the local Ambulance Service as a great location for a new Hospital because it would save more lives given its proximity to this major road network. The extra cars and lorries that a new commercial distribution centre would generate need to be considered alongside the public interest of having a hospital in the right location for our residents most in need of urgent care.
“The NHS is consulting residents on the services its new North Hampshire healthcare system should provide and it has the new hospital, and its location, at the heart of these plans. It would not be right for a commercial developer to jump the queue and put itself in front of the NHS, by submitting plans whilst the NHS is still undertaking its consultation.”
