Maria Miller MP has applauded Basingstoke’s Council for stepping up to support the work of charities and community groups with the cash they need to support vulnerable residents through this Covid19 national healthcare emergency. The Borough Council has awarded up to £200,000 to BVA which will be allocating this money through grants to local groups.
Maria said, “So many small local charities and community groups, often run by volunteers, are working hard with limited resources to support our community through this health crisis. Cash grants from the Council is exactly the right way to ensure that essential work can continue.
“This vital funding from Basingstoke Council will provide grants through BVA to community groups to ensure they can purchase and distribute food for residents unable to leave their homes due to self-isolating, provide protective equipment for volunteers and ensure the new Coronavirus community hubs across the borough can support local residents.”
People who are vulnerable or frail who don’t have family, friends of neighbours who can help can contact the Hampshire Coronavirus Helpline on 0333 370 4000 seven days a week 9am-5pm. Or residents can find their local community hub on https://www.bvaction.org.uk/basingstoke-deane-community-hubs/
