Basingstoke MP Maria Miller visited Marnel Junior School in Popley to take part in an event to learn about Parliament, which was being held jointly with children from Park View Primary School.
The children had spent the morning learning about what Parliament is and how it operates, and how laws are made. In the session with Maria, the children asked her questions on a wide range of issues relating to Parliament and her own experiences and priorities.
Maria said: “It was wonderful to hear how the children from the two schools had been learning about Parliament, and they had some great questions for me. The staff had clearly worked very hard to engage the children in a wide range of events and activities.”
“It is really important for children to understand about democracy and Parliament, and I was very pleased to be part of it, particularly in the run up to National Democracy Week, which is taking place for the first time ever from 2-8 July – the 90th anniversary of the Equal Franchise Act.”
