Basingstoke MP Maria Miller met up recently at Crabtree Plantation with Charlee Bennett, Chief Executive of the Hampshire branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), together with members of the North Hampshire District Group, Peter Prag and Des O’Donnell.
Maria heard from them about their Strategic Vision for Hampshire, which calls for a county-wide strategic approach to planning for development and growth which is balanced by the need to protect the environment. They discussed the challenge that high house building levels in Basingstoke present, and the need to ensure that environmental and biodiversity mitigation measures are rigourously implemented.
Maria said: “I was very pleased to meet up with CPRE Hampshire and interested to hear their thoughts about the way in which Local Plans make it more difficult to take a holistic view of the County’s rich environment. I will look forward to keeping in touch with them.”
