Basingstoke MP Maria Miller took the morning assembly at Rucstall Primary School on Monday 14 November, to launch this year's Parliament Week. Parliament Week, which runs from 14 to 20 November, encourages people of all ages to get involved in democracy.
Maria spoke to the children about the importance of everyone being able to have their say in important decisions affecting local communities and the country as a whole, by voting in local and general elections and getting involved in the democratic process. She also talked about how school councils have the same role within school communities.
Maria said: "I was delighted to help launch Parliament Week at Rucstall School. It is really important that children learn about democracy and having their voice heard, and the Head and other staff at Rucstall are clearly very committed to ensuring their children have a good understanding of this."
