Local MP, Maria Miller, visited Basingstoke College of Technology to meet Principle, Anthony Bravo, and discuss further education provision in Basingstoke.
Maria said: “I am delighted to catch up with Anthony and the BCoT team, ahead of College’s Week, to discuss the college’s excellent record of delivering further education.
“This year has seen BCoT go from strength to strength: achieving 98% success in Level 3 exams this year; more than 100 students using the brand new University Centre; anew nursing degree being developed; and with apprenticeship numbers rising post pandemic.
“It’s great that BCoT has also launched 7 new T Levels courses this year, to provide even greater depth and variety of options for its students.”
T Levels are qualifications for 16- to 19-year-olds taken after GCSEs. They are broadly equivalent in size to 3 A levels and focus on technical and vocational skills.
There are now 16 T Levels subjects available in total with seven more launching in September 2023
These new type of qualifications have been designed in collaboration with leading employers to provide the skills that businesses across the region need. They are a mix of learning and on-the-job training that can help students get into skilled employment, university, higher technical qualifications, or higher apprenticeships.
Each T Level includes an in-depth industry placement that covers 20% of the course, and lasts at least 45 days . Students get valuable experience in the workplace; employers get early sight of the new talent in their industry.
