Basingstoke MP Maria Miller called in recently at Everest Community Academy in Popley, as part of her programme of regular visits to Basingstoke schools.
Maria had a catch up meeting with the Headteacher Alex Russell, who is also Chief Executive of the Academy’s sponsoring body, Bourne Education Trust. She heard about latest developments at the school, including the focus on improvement and educational attainment.
Maria also had a meeting with a group of students, to discuss a wide range of issues.
Maria said: “I was very pleased to visit Everest Community Academy again, and to see the progress that has been made in the first year of being run by the Bourne Education Trust. I was glad to hear about the improvement in GCSE results this summer. The priority for me is to ensure that all children in Basingstoke get the high standard of education they deserve.”
“I also enjoyed meeting the students at Everest, who had some excellent questions and very thoughtful observations. I am always interested to hear what students hope to do after leaving school, and this group had high aspirations both in terms of universities and careers.”
