Basingstoke MP Maria Miller called in recently at Everest Community Academy in Popley, as part of her programme of regular visits to Basingstoke schools.
Maria was welcomed by the Headteacher Alex Russell, who is also Chief Executive of the new sponsoring body, Bourne Education Trust, and the Chair of Governors Chris Munroe. Maria was given a tour of the school, and was able to look in on many of the classes.
Maria had a catch up meeting with the Headteacher and Chair of Governors, and heard about latest developments at the school, and the Academy Trust’s focus on achieving school improvement. Maria also had a meeting with a group of students, to discuss a wide range of issues.
Maria said: “I was very pleased to visit Everest Community Academy again, which was my first visit since the new Academy Trust started in September 2017. It was great to hear about the Trust’s ambitions for Everest, building on their strong track record of school improvement in Surrey. The priority for me is to ensure that all children in Basingstoke get the high standard of education they deserve.”
“I also enjoyed meeting the students at Everest, who had some excellent questions. I am always interested to learn what students hope to do after leaving school, and this group had high aspirations, which was great to hear.”
