Maria Miller, MP for Basingstoke, recently visited Fort Hill School in Winklebury, where she met the Headteacher Vicky Essex and a group of students, to hear their thoughts on the proposals to amalgamate with Cranbourne School.
The Governing Body, which runs both schools, has asked Hampshire County Council for a public consultation on the amalgamation, following the news that only 39 children had applied for entry to Fort Hill in September 2017. The Governors feel that having one larger school could help to ensure that children get a strong and stable education.
Maria said: “It was clear from listening to the students I met that they have enormous loyalty to their school and teachers, and do not relish the upheaval of moving school. The priority has to be ensuring that all children get the high standard of education they need and deserve, and it is right that the Governing Body is considering how to secure the best future for the children.”
