Tomorrow, Wednesday 13th July, Maria Miller, Basingstoke’s new Member of Parliament will be putting the concerns of local Basingstoke residents on the issue of over development direct to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
Maria has been granted a special debate on this important issue. Securing effective action on the problems associated with over development was an important pledge in Maria’s General Election campaign.
Speaking today Maria said, “I pledged to be a strong voice for Basingstoke in the General Election campaign. This debate is an opportunity to take the concerns of Basingstoke and Deane residents on the issue of over development direct to the Minister responsible.
I will be focussing specifically on the growing gap between what is needed to properly fund and maintain local services and the amount of money made available. Government funding for vital local services is not matched to the centrally dictated house building targets for North Hampshire. I will be calling on the Minister to give me an assurance that the growing funding gap in North Hampshire be filled and that future housing plans are developed locally, by the people who have the best interests of North Hampshire at heart”.
