Basingstoke’s MP, Maria Miller met with the District Commander of Basingstoke Police, Scott Johnson.
Maria said, “At my regular meeting with District Commander Johnson we discussed police activities in Basingstoke, including the work being done to deter illegal, noisy car meets, dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour.
“Illegal car meets and dangerous driving remain a priority for Hampshire Police and in Basingstoke there have been prosecutions for dangerous driving.
“The police have emphasised that anti-social or dangerous driving will not be tolerated in Basingstoke, and that deterring this anti-social behaviour remains a top priority.
“District Commander Johnson reiterated the importance of reporting dangerous driving to the police, particularly by providing the police with dash cam footage. The more information that the police receive, the more precisely they can deploy their resources, so please do report to the police if you see or witness dangerous driving.
“The police can be contacted on 999 in an emergency, on 101 or online via the Hampshire Constabulary website. Vehicle crime can also be reported through Hants SNAP, which is a police initiative that targets alleged road traffic crime. More information, including how to upload pictures and video footage, can be found, here.
“It was also great to speak with District Commander Johnson about the recently announced local bobby scheme which allocates each neighbourhood a Designated Named Officer. Not only does this continue to improve visible policing, but also ensures each community knows who to contact about safety and crime concerns.
“It was positive to hear from District Commander Johnson that each officer has settled into their neighbourhoods well. To support this, I will be holding beat surgeries with each Designated Named Officer over the coming weeks. Information on when we will be out in your ward will be shared on my Facebook page.”
