Basingstoke’s MP Maria Miller has congratulated the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, following the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) visit to hospitals in Andover, Basingstoke and Winchester earlier this year, Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is now rated as ‘Good’ overall, and ‘Outstanding’ for caring.
Maria said “I congratulate the Trust and applaud the dedication of every single members of staff to achieve this fantastic rating. Our hospital is stepping up to combat the international COVID-19 pandemic and I am immensely proud of the remarkable job being done in exceptional circumstances.”
Inspectors found that staff treated patients with compassion and kindness, respected their privacy and dignity, took account of their individual needs, and helped them understand their conditions. They also observed that staff provided emotional support to patients, families and carers. We are seeing all of these skills and this compassion being put into effect on a daily basis.
Measures put in place to prevent the spread of infection were praised, as was the way in which doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals work together as a team, supporting each other to provide good care. This is more important now than ever before and will make such a difference in the coming weeks and months.
Inspectors found that staff had the qualifications, skills, training and experience needed to keep patients safe and that care was planned and provided in a way that meets the needs of local people and the community.
Staff told inspectors that they felt respected, supported and valued, with inspectors also noting that the trust promotes equality and diversity and provides opportunities for career development.
