Basingstoke’s MP at official opening Hampshire Hospitals New Heart Centre which has already cared for 2,700 Basingstoke residents
A £10.6M investment into Basingstoke NHS healthcare, the new 'Heart Centre', which opened to patients a year ago was officially opened by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire earlier this month and has already treated more than 2 700 patients.
The Centre was constructed using highly innovative modular-build design and building methods, enabling the facility to be completed in just 12-months, admitting its first patient on 18 October 2022.
Maria said , “The new Heart Centre has already treated more than 2,700 patients over the last year, including over 200 emergency procedures - providing both emergency and elective cardiac procedure services to our local community.
“The Hospital Trust have used highly innovative modular-build design building methods which have enabled the centre to be operational in just 12 months. As we move forward with plans for our new hospital in Basingstoke, modular-build design like the one used for the new Heart Centre facility can help to speed up both the build and delivery.
“I commend everyone involved in the new Heart Centre from build to life-changing assessments and procedures transforming the quality of life for thousands of patients in Hampshire.”
Located on the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital campus, the facility features two cardiac catheterisation labs, offering a purpose-built environment for our specialist teams of staff to undertake diagnostic assessment and cardiac procedures.
Modular design will be used to deliver the new Hospital for Basingstoke as part of the largest hospital building programme in a generation. The Trust’s detailed business plan has been approved by the Treasury securing £900million ring fenced funding.
Maria said, “We have a plan, we have a preferred site, and we have a great team of professionals leading the way. We’re ready to move forward to Public Consultation which is fully funded by the NHS. So, let's get it done!”
