It was announced today that the Government will push through the building of 270+ houses in German Road Bramley, going against local residents, the local Borough Council and the Planning Inspector, all of whom raised overwhelming concerns about the sustainability of these proposals.
Speaking after the announcement, Maria Miller MP for Basingstoke said, “It beggars belief that the Government has totally disregarded evidence presented by Basingstoke Borough Council, Bramley Parish Council, local residents and finally their own Planning Inspector; all of which clearly show that house building on the scale that is proposed in Bramley is unsustainable and could create traffic chaos on the country lanes in and around the village. Six weeks ago I was informed that the Government wanted to bulldoze through the developers plans and despite further representations, including a full debate in The House of Commons, the Minister, Yvette Cooper, has failed to come forward with any new evidence to support this astonishing decision.
“Many people will be questioning the usefulness of any consultation if the Government can simply ride roughshod over the results and when the evidence against development is so clear.”
“The Secretary of State is the final stage of appeal and as a result, despite all of the work has been done, by so many people, over such a long period of time, there is little that can now be done to stop this development taking place.”
